Caps and stuff
Got a flat tire on the way to the caps game today. Also ate half of a half smoke and a two-hot-dog hot dog.
Watched
This funny Letterman Dick cheney thing, which riffs on Cheney's ever-so-adorable word-association romance with Torture. Alas, I can only link to the Huffington Post article.
Something I listed to today
The Hype Machine radio show.
Something I learned today
Pee-wee hockey is co-ed.
Really. I learned that at the Caps game.
New Stuff
This evening I went to see the "This American Life Live" show. So the audio is just the first mp3 of TAL that I could find.
Something I listened to today
Something I watched today
(@harlanturk's cat hangs out - Mice Parade in the BG)
You thought I was going to bail
And I will admit that I almost forgot to do any entry.
Something I Watched Today
This badass video of trials riding. Trust me, even if you don't have a penchant for two-wheeled riding thingies, you'll enjoy it.
Something I Listened To Today
This podcast from http://arrivehavingeaten.com that I found after following @badbanana on Twitter after he was in @gruber's Top five. It's not fall over funny, hence its listing post-awesome-video.
Something I Learned Today
There's a great little plugin for Wordpress that let's you slap a google map-point on a post called GeoPress. I found it at 11:55, so just made it under the wire here.
A New Blog Approach (but who are we kidding)
I'd like to try to giving better blog, but haven't quite figured out the best way to do it. I typically punish myself with a blog entry (i.e. "I'm bored and don't feel like programming and I haven't written anything in a while, so I'm going to write a blog entry.") Which is an admittedly bad approach since it usually results in half-baked thoughts that I later find trite. Instead, I'm going to hoist something from Merlin Mann's video blog where he tried to come up with some little micro topics of "something you should listen to, something you should watch, a new idea for the day, etc."
Anyway, heregoes.
Something I listened to today:
The Thermals - Let It Go (from the new album)
Something I watched today:
Slow Motion Sneezing
Something I learned today:
I knew that there was a math.floor function, but didn't realize that there was a matching math.ceiling. Handy.
SXSW Daytum
Daytum.com has a limit on my # of data sets and displays, so I think I'm going to have to give up on the SXSW one and just re-enter it all next year. A screen shot will have to suffice:

SXSW Day 9
- Jason Lytle (of Grandaddy)
- Vivian Girls
- Viva Voce
- Peelander-Z
- Thermals
- Iran
Peelander-Z was absolutely the most ridiculous spectacle I've seen onstage ever. Youtube them.
SXSW Day 8
Not as many bands yesterday... but a really, really long day:
- The Thermals
- School of 7 Bells
- Wavves
- Delta Spirit (again!)
- Beach House
- Bedouin Soundclash
- Peter, Bjorn and John (unfortunately not that good live)
- Grizzly Bear
- Crystal Stilts
The plan for today is pretty simple - trying to hit the Viva Voce show at 3pm and then working around from there to also catch my friend Nick's band, Iran at 8pm. There's also a big show in Waterloo park with a huge bunch of bands that could be good.
SXSW Day 7
Let's see, this is what I saw on 3/19
- Au Revoir Simone
- Daniel Johnston (Hymns opening)
- The Wrens
- These Arms Are Snakes
- Avett Brothers
- Passion Pit
- Cold War Kids (big arena style)
- Cursive
- Arkeils
- Sam Roberts
- Delta Spirit
- Black Lips
- Von Bondies
SXSW Day 6
I'm too tired to do much more than list bands and say whether or not they were good.
The scale here is from "great"
to "good"
to "meh"
- Anathallo
- Greg Laswell
- Samantha Crain
- Amanda Palmer
- Port O'Brien
- Heartless Bastards
- Lonely Dear
- Black Joe Lewis
- Wild Light
- M Ward
- Department of Eagles
Today I'm looking to make it to:
- Passion Pit
- Thao Nguyen and the Get Down Stay Down
- The Avett Brothers
- The Wrens
- Bishop Allen
- Cursive
Who are all at a day party from 11:30am - 6pm. Then trying to get to:
- Cold War Kids or Fanfarlo (can't decide)
- Dirty Projectors
- Artefacts for Spacetravel and Let's Wrestle
SXSW Day 5
Have you noticed the posts getting shorter and shorter? They are. The most interesting thing yesterday was a final presentation on GPS+Location and Social media. There were reps there from heavy-hitters like Garmin, Brightkite, uLocate, Where.com, Oslo, etc. A FireEagle developer was in the room, too (it took them a 10 minute conversation about privacy, security and interoperability before they mentioned FireEagle, which we both decided was completely ridiculous).
In any case, music begins today, so I need to say good by to sleeping and goodbye to my laptop, I suppose.
